India’s teenage sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi had a short stay at the crease in the Under-19 Asia Cup 2025 final against Pakistan. As Pakistan pacer Ali Raza dismissed Suryavanshi, he gave him an abusive send-off. Suryavanshi turned around, said a few things and pointed towards his shoes before walking back to the pavilion.
The video of the heated exchange between Suryavanshi and Raza has gone viral on social media -
In the run chase of 348, Suryavanshi started off with a six. Raza bowled a short ball and Suryavanshi smashed it over deep square leg. The southpaw hit a four and another six in the first over of Raza. Suryavanshi hit Mohammad Sayyam for a six as well. In the same over, he was dropped by Raza at backward point. It was an easy catch put down by Raza.
In his second over, Raza made amends by dismissing Indian skipper Ayush Mhatre. He got caught at mid-off trying to play a lofted shot. In the fourth over, Aaron George hit Sayyam for three boundaries before a short ball hurried on to him and claimed his wicket.
On the first ball of the fifth over, Suryavanshi went for a lofted shot. It was slightly short and the outside edge carried to wicketkeeper Hamza Zahoor. He departed after scoring 26 runs from 10 deliveries.
Raza dismissed Suryavanshi in 2024 too
This is not the first time Raza has dismissed Suryavanshi. In last year's Under-19 Asia Cup clash, Raza had got the opener out caught behind for a single-digit score. He scored just one run from nine deliveries.
Suryavanshi’s stocks dip against big teams
The 14-year-old Suryavanshi has struggled against big Asian teams in the tournament. In India's campaign opener against UAE, he scored 171. In the group stage clash against Pakistan, he was dismissed for just five runs. He got caught and bowled by Sayyam.
Suryavanshi followed it up with a 26-ball fifty against Malaysia. In the semifinal clash against Sri Lanka, he registered another single-digit score. Rasith Nimsara dismissed him in the rain-curtailed 20 overs per side game. He scored just nine runs from six deliveries.
