Vinod Kambli urged everyone to shun alcohol and narcotic drugs.

Former India cricketer Vinod Kambli was discharged from the hospital on January 1, 2025, Wednesday after undergoing treatment for nearly two weeks. He was admitted in a private hospital at Bhiwandi in Thane district.

Kambli was admitted to Akruti Hospital for urinary infection and cramps, but the doctors later said that clots were found in his brain.

In a New Year's message, Kambli, talking to the waiting media, made an appeal to the people to shun alcohol and narcotic drugs, saying that vices can destroy one's life.

Addressing a press conference before he left the hospital, Kambli said, "This doctor (Thakur) made me fit and I had stated that I would come back only when I am fit. I will show people in Shivaji Park that I Vinod Kambli will not leave cricket. These guys (at the hospital) gave me good cricket practice. I ‘hit’ only fours and sixes!" He also wished everyone a Happy New Year and appealed to fans to stay away from alcohol. "Enjoy the new year. Don’t drink alcohol. Enjoy life," he said.

Both Kambli and Tendulkar stole the limelight when they were just 14 and 15 years old. Both batters put on a stunning 664-run partnership for their school Shardashram Vidyamandir against St Xavier's in a Harris Shield match. Both players remained not out with Kambli making 349 and Tendulkar scoring 326.

Tendulkar made his India debut in 1989 against Pakistan and ended his career as one of the greatest players who ever played the sport. He played 200 Tests and 463 ODIs for India and holds the record for the most runs scored in both formats. He is the only player in cricket history to make 100 international centuries.
