Gautam Gambhir named two probable replacements as opener if Rohit misses Perth Test.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma did not travel with the team to Australia ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. Rohit is doubtful for the first Test of the series at Perth Stadium due to personal reasons. In the press conference on November 11, head coach Gautam Gambhir hoped that he will be available for the series opener but there is no confirmation so far.

"There is no confirmation. We'll let you know. Hopefully he’ll be available. Everything you’ll get to know by the start of the series," Gambhir said in the press conference.

Gambhir was also asked who will open the innings if Rohit does not play the first Test. He did not reveal a sure-shot replacement but named Abhimanyu Easwaran and KL Rahul as two contenders to do the job in Perth.

"Not looking at WTC. Every series important irrespective of what's happened in past. Keen to go and perform well. Easwaran, KL as Rohit's replacement. To play best XI closer to the 1st Test," said the former Indian opener.

The first Test of the series will commence on November 22.
