Indian ODI and Test captain Rohit Sharma reacted to his teammate Shikhar Dhawan's retirement. Both Rohit and Dhawan used to open innings for India in all three formats. Rohit and Dhawan are currently on number four in the highest-run opening duo. Both batters scored 5148 runs including 18 centuries together. Dhawan took his social media to announce his retirement from all formats of the game. He last featured for India in December 2022 against Bangladesh.
Rohit took his ‘X’ formerly known as Twitter shared a few pictures with his opening partner.
“From sharing rooms to sharing lifetime memories on the field. You always made my job easier from the other end. THE ULTIMATE JATT” posted Rohit.
In the 34 Tests, 167 ODIs and 68 T20Is he played, Dhawan scored 10,867 runs in international cricket -- the 12th most for India -- with 24 centuries and 79 fifty-plus scores. He went on to become the player of the tournament in India's Champions Trophy victory in 2013 by scoring most runs (363) in the 2013 edition.
Shikhar Dhawan also lavished praise on Rohit Sharma as a captain, he said that they (Virat, Rohit and Dhawan) scored 100 centuries in five years.
“We were part of a beautiful journey together. I clearly remember that Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and I scored 100 centuries in 5 years. Ravi bhai was our coach then. Even NCA has played such a huge role, understood how training and rehab is done whenever I got injured. And a big thank you to the BCCI as well,” Dhawan said.
