The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Devajit Saikia has confirmed that Rinku Singh will rejoin the Indian team in Kolkata on Saturday ahead of their Super 8 clash against the West Indies in the T20 World Cup.
BCCI on Rinku Singh's availability
Rinku had flown back home after the passing of his father, Khanchand, on Thursday night due to liver cancer. He left Chennai early in the morning at around 5:00 am to reach New Delhi and attend the last rites.
“Rinku Singh will join the team tomorrow in Kolkata,” BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia told IANS.
Rinku Singh's father, Khanchand, had been admitted to Yatharth Hospital in Greater Noida on February 21 after his health worsened. He was later put on ventilator support and passed away in the early hours of Friday.
Rinku had earlier spent time with his father when his condition became critical. He rejoined the squad before India’s match against Zimbabwe at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Thursday. However, he did not make the playing eleven, as Sanju Samson was preferred to open the batting alongside Abhishek Sharma.
