Legendary Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh did not hold back in a scathing rebuttal aimed at former Pakistani pacer Tanvir Ahmed following comments made during Harbhajan's stint at the ILT20. Harbhajan took aim at Tanvir’s relatively brief international career, which spanned just five Tests, two ODIs, and a single T20I between 2010 and 2013, to question his standing in the sport. By highlighting this disparity in experience, Harbhajan sought to expose what he viewed as a lack of qualification on Tanvir's part to critique established world-class players.
Harbhajan Singh issues fiery warning to Tanvir Ahmed
Tanvir has become a familiar face on Pakistani television, frequently appearing as a pundit to offer polarizing opinions on the state of the national team. However, his latest remarks ahead of the high-stakes India versus Pakistan T20 World Cup clash on Sunday seem to have crossed a line for the Indian veteran. The tension reportedly centered around Usman Tariq, the Pakistani spinner whose unorthodox bowling action has recently sparked global debate and divided expert opinion.
The exchange turned personal after Tanvir made a statement that deeply incensed Harbhajan, prompting the 43-year-old legend to launch a full-scale verbal assault. Harbhajan’s fierce response served to defend his own reputation while dismissing the 47-year-old Tanvir’s insights as irrelevant, adding another layer of friction to the already electric atmosphere surrounding the upcoming rivalry match.
"This video is for a tuccha insaan (petty human being), who’s said a few things about me. Ideally, I don’t even know who he is, but because I see that time and again, he does his drama on one platform or another. First, I want to know who this guy is. Do you even know him? His name is Tanvir Ahmed. He’s played some 3-4 matches for Pakistan, and he behaves as if he is Imran Khan, or Wasim Akram or Waqar Younis. Shame on you," Harbhajan said on his YouTube channel.
"I was serving my role as a broadcaster in the ILT20. What is the role of a broadcaster? When someone wins the Man of the Match award, you ask him questions, right? Usman Tariq, the Pakistan spinner, picked up three wickets and won the match for his team. As a broadcaster, I am obviously supposed to ask him questions. But when I did so, this guy [Tanvir Ahmed] had a problem. Had I not asked him questions, he would have again thought that, since he’s from Pakistan, I didn’t ask him questions. He said, wherever I see a Pakistani cricketer, I roam around them," he added.
Harbhajan remained in an uncompromising mood, intensifying his verbal barrage by warning Tanvir Ahmed to immediately stop mentioning his name. The Indian legend extended this ultimatum to include all Indian cricketers, asserting that Tanvir lacked the stature or the record to speak on their behalf.
The next time it happens, teri dhajjiya uda dunga: Harbhajan's warning to Tanvir
The veteran spinner made it clear that further provocations would not be tolerated. He concluded his public response with a stern promise of "dire repercussions," even using the blunt Hindi phrase "Teri dhajjiya uda dunga" (I will destroy you) to emphasize that he would dismantle any future attempts to target him or his colleagues for social media clout.
“Listen to me. I don’t even know who you are. None of the greats produced by Pakistan says such a thing. They are well-respected. But people like you, who have never achieved anything, all they can do is sit on cheap channels and utter nonsense. You don’t have the manners to speak. This is the difference between a player who plays 5 matches and one who plays 100. So Tanvir Ahmed, look at yourself and stop talking nonsense. As far as I am concerned, just buzz off. The next time it happens, teri dhajjiya uda dunga (I’ll destroy you. So get lost)," Harbhajan signed off.
