Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza was full of praise for his squad following their stunning 23-run upset over Australia in the T20 World Cup 2026. While chasing a target of 170, the Australian lineup faltered under consistent pressure, failing to build the necessary partnerships to steer the chase. Zimbabwe's bowling attack proved too difficult to navigate, eventually dismissing Travis Head’s side for 146 runs in 19.3 overs.

Feeling of a brother whose younger brothers are achieving a lot together: Sikandar Raza
The defense was spearheaded by pacer Blessing Muzarabani, whose clinical four-wicket haul dismantled the Australian middle and lower order. His performance ensured that the tournament favorites remained on the back foot throughout the innings. In an emotional post-match reflection, Raza expressed immense pride in his team's composure and grit. He spoke warmly of the squad's chemistry, referring to his teammates as his "younger brothers" and highlighting the deep personal bond that fueled their historic upset on the world stage.
“I am proud and happy. Feeling of a brother whose younger brothers are achieving a lot together. Our culture, environment, and unity are amazing, and to win a match against Australia is unbelievable. We were at 70 in the 10 overs and were not looking to target 190. There was a possibility of getting out on 140 as you end up losing wickets in Sri Lanka if you try to hit too hard,” Sikandar said at the post-match presentation.
“We told Benny to stay in the middle till the end, as he was doing fine. Our fielding was superb, and we took some good catches,” he added.

Despite the high of the victory, fitness concerns forced Sikandar Raza off the field during the crucial second innings. His absence from the pitch meant he had to watch his team’s defensive effort from the dugout, cheering them on as a spectator rather than leading them from the middle.
Sikandra Raza drops big update on his injury concerns
Following the conclusion of the match, Raza addressed the situation directly. He provided an update on the nature of his injury, detailing how the physical setback had limited his involvement during the game's final stages.
“All I can tell you is that these are just cramps and I should be fine in the next day or two,” he further stated.
The veteran all-rounder also highlighted the need of replacements amidst Zimbabwe's injury riddle.
“We have just 13 fit bodies right now. I went down, and Cremer has a niggle. I am sure Zimbabwe Cricket is looking into the replacements because you need 15 fit palyers in these conditions. The boys deserve to enjoy and celebrate today. We are in a great position, but the next game is now the most important one,” he concluded.
