India wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson opened up on the special welcome he received at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, which is his new home venue in the Indian Premier League, after being traded to the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Samson, who is currently featuring in the T20 World Cup 2026, featured at the venue during the India vs Zimbabwe Super Eight clash at the iconic venue.

Samson said the warmth was clear from the moment he arrived in the city, noting the strong cultural and emotional connection between Chennai and his home state of Kerala.
“After the trade, this is the first time I’m coming to Chennai. Right from the airport, I can feel the special love. Normally, we do come to Kerala and Chennai is very close, we do often come here, and I do feel that energy here. Fortunate to be a part of such a great and passionate fans here in Chennai,” Sanju said in a video shared by bcci.tv on Saturday.
Samson on accountability
The right-handed batter, known for his elegant stroke play, said performing in front of Chennai’s passionate crowd brings both joy and added accountability.
“Really happy to go out there and entertain them in this way. I’m happy. More than just happiness, there’s also a little extra responsibility. When everyone comes to cheer for you, I think there’s an extra added responsibility to actually entertain them. So yeah, I’m very happy. Yes, we’ll meet soon,” he said in Tamil.
Samson's performance in T20 World Cup 2026
Sanju Samson has played two matches for India in the T20 World Cup so far, scoring a total of 46 runs. In his most recent game against Zimbabwe, he made 24 runs. Before that, he featured against Namibia, where he scored eight runs off 22 balls.
