The group stage of the 2025–26 Vijay Hazare Trophy ended on Thursday, with the eight teams qualifying for the quarterfinals now confirmed. The knockout stage will begin on January 12. India batting stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli featured from Mumbai and Delhi in the ongoing edition of the domestic tournament.
Ruturaj Gaikwad created history
Notably, both Mumbai and Delhi have sealed their berth for the quarterfinals of the fifty over tournament. Apart from Rohit and Virat, fast bowling all-rounder Hardik Pandya also represented Baroda and smashed his maiden century but his team failed to qualify for the playoffs. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad stole the show in the tournament by levelling Ankit Bawne's record for joint-most centuries in the VHT, both having 15 each. While Bawne's tons have come in 101 matches, Gaikwad took just 59 matches to reach there. In 59 VHT matches, Gaikwad has slammed 3336 runs at a brilliant average of 65.41 and a strike rate of 105.00.
