Former no.1 T20I batter Dawid Malan has shown that he is still capable of doing well in the shortest format of the game. In the ongoing T20 Blast, Malan scored an unbeaten 95 in Yorkshire's eight-run win over Nottingmashire at Trent Bridge, Nottingham.

Malan plays the anchor role perfectly

Malan was cautious against Nottinghamshire's Pakistan fast bowler Shaheen Afridi in the powerplay overs. He scored his first boundary in the second over. In the last powerplay over, Yorkshire lost the wicket of Adam Lyth and Will Luxton. Skipper Shan Masood joined him in the middle. In the 12th over, Masood lost his wicket to Matthew Montgomery. Malan was batting on 44 then.

Malan tried to play the anchor role but Yorkshire lost another wicket in the form of David Wiese in the 14th over. The left-handed batter got to his half-century from 37 deliveries in the 15th over. He kept on scoring boundaries to keep the scoreboard moving. In the last over, he needed 17 runs to get to the three figures. The southpaw got the strike on the fourth ball. He hit a four and a six followed by a couple runs.

The 35-year-old remained unbeaten for 56-ball 95 which included eight fours and four sixes. His knock helped Yorkshire post a fighting total of 182/7.

Not enough firepower in middle overs

In reply, Nottinghamshire lost the wicket of Joe Clarke early in the innings. Alex Hales and Colin Munro's 84-run partnership for the second wicket kept Nottinghamshire in the hunt. Wiese got the breakthrough again in the form of Hales who scored 53 runs from 35 deliveries. Munro struggled to score freely and lost his wicket in the 16th over. The Kiwi batter scored 46 runs from 41 deliveries.

Towards the end of the run chase, Montgomery's 19-ball 28 cameo infused life into the run chase but it wasn't enough as they managed to post 174/4 and lost the game by eight runs.

Malan’s IPL debut

Malan made his IPL debut in 2021 edition for Punjab Kings (PBKS). He scored 26 runs in one game and did not get a chance again. He was roped in for Rs 1.5 crore in the auction by the Punjab-based franchise. After getting released, he went unsold in the auction.
