India captain Shubman Gill continued his stunning form in Test cricket and slammed a fine century against West Indies on Day 2 of the second Test against West Indies. The 26-year-old had taken the crease on the first day after Sai Sudharsan had departed back to the pavilion for 87 runs. He formed a 74-run stand with Yashasvi Jaiswal before going on to carry the Men in Blue over the 500-run mark by forming key partnerships with both Nitish Kumar Reddy and Dhruv Jurel.
Gill also went on to reach his century during the second session and did so after facing 177 deliveries. He eventually remained unbeaten on 129 as India declared on 518/5. His knock included 16 boundaries and two sixes and was important in getting them to a humongous first-inning total.
How many Test tons has Gill scored as captain?
This was Gill's fifth Test century as India's captain. He had scored four tons in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy against England and had finished the series with 754 runs in five Tests. He was the highest run-getter of the series that went on to end at 2-2.
This century saw Gill become India's highest run-getter in World Test Championship history. The 26-year-old had started the knock as the Men in Blue's third-highest run-getter in the format and went past both Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant in the process.

Gill has a fine record for India in Test cricket and has been in top form ever since he was appointed as the captain before the England series. In the 38 Tests he has played so far, Gill has scored a total of 2826 runs, including 10 centuries and eight half-centuries. He has made a fantastic start to the new WTC cycle and will be hoping to maintain this form in India's next red-ball assignment that will be a two-match series against South Africa and will commence from November 14.
