Roston Chase hailed West Indies' batters for their performance in 2nd Test against India

India defeated West Indies by 7 wickets in second Test

Even though West Indies ended up on the losing side in the second Test against India, Roston Chase was left thoroughly impressed with the side's batters for helping them in taking the match all the way down to the fifth day. The visitors had been handed a follow-on after they could only manage to score 248 runs in response to the Men in Blue's first-inning total of 518/5.

However, the batters helped West Indies in coming back into the game. The duo of John Campbell and Shai Hope scored monumental centuries and multiple other batters played impactful cameos as the visitors avoided a second-consecutive innings defeat. They batted for over 100 overs in the second innings, posting 390 runs on the board and setting up a 121-run target for the hosts.

"The positives for us in this match was that Campbell and Hope played well and scored hundreds. They fought for us, we batted 100 overs after a long time, that was another positive. Taking the game to the 5th day, that was great for us," Chase said during the post-match presentation.

"We came up with a lot of ideas, batting against spin, sweeping, using our feet, and it was just about the guys going out there and executing the plans we’d spoken about. I think the guys we have here are some of the best players in the Caribbean," he added.

Major confidence boost for West Indies

Though West Indies weren't able to defend the modest target and lost the match by seven wickets, this Test was definitely a step in the right direction for them and it must have given a lot of confidence especially to their batters. Chase further remarked that they will use this game as a way to gain confidence for upcoming matches and will be looking to improve as much as they can.

"So it’s just for us to use this last Test match as a stepping stone and a confidence booster going into the upcoming series. We just have to keep improving as much as we can from here," Chase concluded.

Who will be West Indies' next opponent in Tests?

Meanwhile, West Indies are yet to record their first victory of the new World Test Championship (WTC) cycle and will be hoping to do so in their next assignment in red-ball cricket that will be a three-match series against New Zealand and will commence from December 2.
