Gujarat Giants were thrashed by 142 runs against Mumbai Indians in their opening Women's Premier League (WPL) 2023 match on Saturday (March 4) night and facing the UP Warriorz less than 24 hours later, stand-in skipper Sneh Rana won the toss and chose to bowl first.

The team will be without Beth Mooney, who got injured when her left leg landed while she decided to turn back mid-pitch. The 29-year-old received treatment in the middle of the park, with the injury seemingly on her left knee. She eventually walked off the pitch in what turned out to be a major blow to the Giants.

On her skipper's update, Rana said,  "It is still to be told, we are waiting for an update."

Gujarat have made three changes to their Playing XI, with Sushma Verma, Kim Garth and Sophia Dunkley making their respective debuts.

Meanwhile, the Warriorz have gone full-strength in the batting department at the expense of South African pacer Shabnim Ismail, as was confirmed by their skipper Alyssa Healy.

She also hopes to lead her side to glory, she said at the toss. "We would like to have a bat, every team is batting first and posting good scores. The girls are excited to be here, I am a bit nervous. Representing UP Warriorz with pride. It's been amazing to watch.

“The excitement levels have been amazing, great to see the fans coming and supporting us. We have had to make a few tough decisions. Have some quality spinners in our attack.”
