Delhi Capitals ended up as the runners-up last season.

WPL 2024 second edition is set to begin on February 23.

Meg Lanning is gearing up to join the Delhi Capitals (DC) for the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2024, with the former Australian captain acknowledging some unfinished business.

Lanning shines in domestic leagues after retirement

Since retiring from international cricket last year, Lanning has been playing for the Melbourne Stars in the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) and representing Victoria in the Women's National Cricket League (WNCL).

The Capitals ended as the runner-up last year, falling to the Mumbai Indians (MI) in an exciting final. With her vast experience, Lanning is determined to make a mark in the WPL and lead the Capitals to victory.

Excited and Hopeful: Lanning

"I don't like the word retirement, but it's been nice to be a little bit quiet, spend time at home, and play some cricket here and there.

"I still love playing, and I've been looking forward to the WPL, so I'm really excited and hopefully, can help Delhi win the title this year," Lanning said.

"It's nice to get out here, have a bit of a run around. Everyone looks in really good nick. There is a lot of improvement from everyone, and I'm super excited to see what we can produce this year," she said.

In the previous season, Lanning emerged as the top run-scorer of the tournament, accumulating 345 runs from 9 matches at an average of 49.28.

She shared her enjoyment in opening the batting alongside the aggressive Shafali Varma, who amassed 252 runs last season at a strike rate of 185.29.

"I loved the time last year. Opening the batting with Shafali (Varma) was a lot of fun and it is something I'm looking forward to again this year," Lanning added.

Lanning and Shafali forged a partnership of 162 runs for the opening wicket against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Brabourne Stadium.

The DC will kick off their upcoming campaign against MI on February 23 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.
