The first ever Test at Lord's was played between England and Australia in July 1884. Since then, there have been only four batters who have scored centuries in a successful run chase at the venue. On June 13, South Africa's Aiden Markram became the only South Africa batter to achieve the feat. Here is a list of batters to score a Test century in fourth innings of a Test in a winning cause -

Gordon Greenidge

1. The first to achieve it was West Indies' Gordon Greenidge. Greenidge was dismissed for 1 in first innings. In the run chase of 342, Greenidge scored 214 runs from 242 balls, including 29 fours and two sixes as West Indies won the Test by nine wickets.

Nasser Hussain

2. Nearly two decades later, Nasser Hussain achieved the feat against New Zealand. Hussain was dismissed for 34 in the first innings. In the run chase of 282 against the Kiwis, he remained unbeaten for 103 from 204 balls, including 15 fours. England won the Test by three wickets.

Joe Root

3. 18 years later, Joe Root became the second England player to achieve the feat. Root was dismissed for 11 in the first innings as England were bowled out for 141 by New Zealand. In the run chase of 277, Root remained not out for 115 from 170 balls, including 12 fours. England won the Test by five wickets.

4. South Africa opener Aiden Markram is the latest entrant to the list. After a duck in the first innings of WTC 2025 final, Markram battled a lethal Australian pace attack and scored 136 runs from 207 balls, including 14 fours in the run chase of 282. South Africa won the Test by five wickets.

Hashim Amla

Aiden Markram also broke Hashim Amla's Test record for South Africa and Australia. Markram registered the highest Test score by a Proteas batter in a successful run chase against Australia. The previous record belonged to Amla who scored 112 in Cape Town in November 2011. Markram is also the fifth South Africa batter to achieve this feat against Australia.

Graeme Smith

Aiden Markram's 136 is the second-highest score by a South Africa batter in a successful Test run chase. The top spot belongs to former captain Graeme Smith who scored an unbeaten 154 against England at Edgbaston, Birmingham in July 2008.
