A former Indian cricketer recently took aim at the Indian men's team head coach and former World Cup winner Gautam Gambhir for having ego issues dating back to his Delhi days. The cricketer in question is Atul Wassan, who, in a recent interview, made stunning revelations about Gambhir's attitude problems dating back to his early cricket days.

Atul Wassan's shocking admission about Gambhir

Wassan recently appeared on Vickey Lalwani YouTube Channel, where he shared his views on Indian cricket and made striking remarks about Gautam Gambhir’s aggressive personality dating back to their Delhi cricket days. Wassan claimed he had known Gambhir since childhood and admitted the two had their differences, adding that the former India opener often resorted to bullying tactics in Delhi cricket whenever things did not go according to his preferences.

"I have known him personally since he was a child. I have had my issues with him. With him, it's about my way or the highway. He is like that, and he would bully a lot, even in Delhi cricket," Wassan said.

Although Wassan praised Gautam Gambhir for his cricketing intelligence and abilities, he also described him as highly egoistic. Wassan claimed that if Gambhir decided it was night even when it was morning, people around him were expected to accept it as night, adding that anyone unwilling to align with his viewpoint would quickly land on his "hit list."

"His nature is like that, right from the start. He came from money, an excellent player, and he is intelligent. His ego is on a different level. He thinks that if he says it's night when it's morning, it will be believed to be night. Fall in line. If you don't fall in line, you are on my hit list. He will try to harm you, but he has achieved a lot in cricket, and his nature helped him in cricket," he added.

The Virat Kohli admission

Atul Wassan also suggested that Gautam Gambhir’s confrontational nature and clashes with Virat Kohli stem from an intensely aggressive and dominant personality trait that he associates with Delhi cricket culture.

"That's why he is confronting Virat Kohli: over-aggressiveness and an alpha-male kind of personality from Delhi," Wassan claimed.

Wassan also revealed that Gambhir could not give his best on the field if he didn't fight.

"The player he became is because of his nature. He couldn't give his best unless he fought. He probably goes and fights with the window in his home. But he hasn't realised when to get off this horse, now that he's retired."

Wassan further claimed that several members of the Indian team are unhappy with Gautam Gambhir’s approach, but alleged that none of them are willing to voice their concerns publicly.

"I know one or two of them; they won't say it openly. I can't say their names in this show. Everyone knows what's happening. But after sidelining those players, if you win, then it's your world. It's a team sport; nobody will listen to the player. If the coach wins even after all this, then the coach is right, and the player is wrong," Wassan concluded.
