Ashwin calls Miller’s decision “bonkers,” says a single could have forced a Super Over.

Delhi Capitals fall short by one run despite strong knocks from KL Rahul and Miller.

Delhi Capitals picked up their first loss of IPL 2026, failing short in a 211-run chase against Gujarat Titans as Prasidh Krishna successfully defended 13 runs in the last over against David Miller. Former India spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin has reflected on Miller's decision to deny a single to Kuldeep Yadav on the second-last ball of the last over.

Ravichandran Ashwin reflects on David Millers' decision

On his official YouTube Channel, Ashwin said that he did not get the logic behind David Miller's decision to deny a single which could have pushed the game for a super over.

"I am thinking what could have happened to Kuldeep and David Miller. If I was Kuldeep, I would have pushed him to the other end. I can't understand. I can't fathom it. It is just beyond me. It is bonkers," said the former India spinner.

"Because if you want 4 runs or 6 runs, it was right. You need 2 runs. And what are the odds? You can take 1 run. Kuldeep will at least get into the bat. Or if he doesn't, you can run away. Even if Kuldeep gets bowled, in a 210 game, if you reach the Super Over, you have done well. I am not able to wrap my head around it," Ashwin added.

However Ashwin admitted that such mistakes can happen in a high-pressure game like this, but added that he could not get inside David Miller's head to understand the logic of denying a single.

"Mistakes can happen with anyone. Everybody can make a mistake. No doubt about it. I am sure David Miller is feeling absolutely gutted at this point of time. But I am not able to wrap my head around the thinking. What was the thinking? I don't know, man. Delhi has such a strong team. We talked about it. But still, I told you that Delhi might find a way to kick themselves out of the tournament. If you lose like this, you are doing two things," Ashwin concluded.

Delhi Capital's first defeat in IPL 2026

In the 20th over, DC's Vipraj Nigam smashed four off the first ball before getting out on the next ball. Kuldeep Yadav then came to the crease and found success in rotating strike with a single, while Miller hammered a six off the fourth ball but refused a single on the penultimate delivery.

On the last ball, Praisdh bowled a slower bouncer that David Miller failed to connect, but the South-African batter attempted a single to level the scores and force a Super Over, but Kuldeep Yadav was run out, handing Gujarat Titans a thrilling win.

Next challenge for Delhi Capitals

Other than Millers' fantastic unbeaten 41 off 20 at the end of the innings, star opener KL Rahul gave an outstanding start to DC with his amazing 92 runs off 52 balls. Eventually, the hosts finished at 209/8 while chasing 211. Delhi Capitals will lock horns with  Chennai Super Kings in their IPL clash on Saturday.
