Suresh Raina who announced his retirement from international cricket in 2020 and IPL retirement in 2022 is still capable of dominating international players. Raina proved his mettle on American soil as he smashed Bangladesh's veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan for a massive six dancing down the track.

In the National Cricket League which is being played in the T10 format, New York Lions captain Raina scored an unbeaten half-century in their 19-run win over Los Angeles Waves. 

In the seventh over of the innings, Shakib was introduced into the attack by Tymal Mills. On the first ball, Raina welcomed him with a six over mid-wicket. After a couple of singles and a dot ball, Raina hit Shakib for a boundary towards third man. On the last ball of the innings, the southpaw charged down the track and hit Shakib for a maximum.

Raina, Tharanga guide Lions to fighting total

Earlier, opener Asad Shafiq fell early to Pankaj Kampli. Upul Tharanga and Raina shared an 89-run partnership for the second wicket. Tharanga missed his half-century as he was dismissed by England left-arm pacer Mills in the eighth over. The former Sri Lankan opener scored 40 runs from 23 balls. The wicketkeeper-batter's knock featured six fours and a couple of sixes. Towards the end of the innings, Australia all-rounder Ben Cutting hit a six in his seven-ball 12. Raina remained unbeaten for 53 off 28 balls including six fours and three sixes. New York Lions posted 126/2 on the board.

Big-hitters fell in the run chase

In the run chase, Stephen Eskinazi departed for a golden duck to West Indies' Oshane Thomas. Shakib who recently featured in the two-Test series against India managed to score just 13 runs from 16 balls before falling to Tabraiz Shamsi. Adam Rossington, Tim David and Joe Burns tried to revive the run chase. Shamsi struck again to dismiss Rossington for a 15-ball 31. David hit three sixes in his 10-ball 19 but could not continue and fell to Shaurya Gaur in the eighth over. In the slog overs, Los Angeles Waves suffered a collapse. Gaur took two more wickets as Los Angeles Waves wre 107/7 at the end losing the match by 19 runs.
