It was the heroics of Jamal Musiala in the 89th minute that led Bayern Munich to the Bundesliga title on Saturday, May 27, but an incident during the game stopped it for a few minutes. Facing FC Koln and needing a win at all costs to secure the title, Kingsley Coman and Musiala got the all-important goals to beat their opponents by goal difference in what turned out to be a closely-contested season of football in Germany.

During the game, two sprinklers turned on during the 72nd minute of the match with Bayern a goal ahead and Koln in the attack and looking for a goal.

In another part of the country, needing a win over Mainz to end Bayern’s decade-long title streak, Borussia Dortmund started disastrously and conceded two headed goals as they went 2-0 down after 24 minutes and missed a penalty as well.

Against Koln, they were in control after French winger Kingsley Coman scored an eighth-minute goal. There was more drama for the home side as Dejan Ljubicic levelled the score for Koln against Bayern in the 81st minute, putting Dortmund back in the race for the title.

But Musiala scored with a minute left on the clock as Mainz hung on to secure a 1-1 draw against Dortmund. This meant that Bayern Munich went on the seal their 11th Bundesliga title, while Dortmund missed out on a chance to win their first title since Jurgen Klopp left.

This will be a major boost for their new head coach Thomas Tuchel, who replaced the sacked Julian Nagelsmann. Tuchel, a former Dortmund manager himself, won six of his 13 games to seal his first Bundesliga title as a manager.

Speaking after the match, Tuchel said, "Today we had the last shot and the last answer to all the questions with Jamal [Musiala]. We'll take it, but it was a crazy, crazy afternoon. When Leroy [Sane] couldn't finish his chance, I thought the match would sum up the entire phase I've been in charge here, and perhaps the entire season. We showed a reaction though today, and Jamal scored his screamer. It's incredible."
