The 'Theatre of Dreams' was absolutely bouncing on August 22 (Monday) with buoyant fans hollering, screaming and reveling in Manchester United's 2-1 win over rival Liverpool. More than the victory, it was the brand of football on display that put smiles on the faces of fans and highlighted that not all is doom and gloom for the winningest team in Premier League history.
Two young English stars - Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford - found the back of the net in either half with the former opening the scoring in the 16th minute while the latter doubling United's lead at the 53rd-minute mark, rolling out the club's path for their first win of the season.
Mohamed Salah's strike at the 81st-minute mark revitalised Liverpool as the visitors kept prodding forward with intent to find an equaliser from somewhere. However, United's backline kept its composure and weathered every attack unleashed by The Reds.
Cristiano Ronaldo didn't start for United but what he did during the warm-up ahead of kick-off truly set the ball rolling. The incident transpired when the Sky Sports crew, consisting of United legends Gary Neville, Roy Keane and former Liverpool star Jamie Carragher, was talking about the fixture with host Dave Jones.
Ronaldo suddenly made an appearance on the show, leaving the panel surprised. The Portuguese talisman first hugged Neville, ignoring Carragher's handshake. He snubbed the former Liverpool defender again when he walked across to greet Keane.
Carragher has been relentlessly criticising Ronaldo since his return to Old Trafford last season and at times, has blamed the five-time Ballon d'Or winner for Manchester United's struggles.
