Chelsea deals with major injury blow as key player sidelined for weeks
Cole Palmer will be rested by the Premier League side until after the international break as the club doesn't want to take any risks with his recovery. The player sustained a groin injury, and head coach Maresca has shared the latest update on him.
During the media appearance, the Blues manager told the reporters:
“We decided to protect a little bit Cole.”
The Chelsea star was forced to leave at the 18th minute of the club’s encounter against Manchester United last week. The 23-year-old will be rested instead of forcing off which can make things worse.
Maresca, while explaining the reason behind sidelining Palmer, continued:
“In terms of not letting his injury getting worse.”
The 45-year-old also provided for how long Palmer, who has been an integral part of the club, will be out, said:
"We decided to rest him for two-three weeks until the international break to see if with that rest he can recover 100 per cent and to be fit after the international break.”
Maresca also updated that he believes the player Champions League winner does not need any surgery; however, the club wants to be a little bit “conservative” with him and to “manage the pain in his groin.”

Palmer has only played for the whole 90 minutes once this season as the player continued to battle with the problem. The injury news will also be a worrying one for his national side and Thomas Tuchel. His injury already compelled him to let go of the September camp and to miss the fixtures against Andorra and Serbia earlier this month. It is also expected that Palmer’s injury would limit him to missing England's games against Wales and Latvia during next month's international break.
