Lionel Messi exhibited routine brilliance for Inter Miami in the MLS game against Atlanta on Sunday. The Argentine scored the opening goal for his side- that cancelled Atlanta's lead- and had a telling presence on the field throughout the game, which eventually ended 2-1 in favour of the visitors at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Despite the exceptional performance, it is an off-field act of Messi which is making more rounds than his play.

Lionel Messi Steps On An FC Barcelona T-Shirt
A clip showcasing Lionel Messi stepping on an FC Barcelona T-shirt is going viral on social media. Messi could be seen walking on the Blaugrana-colored jersey, which he proudly wore for 17 years before heading to Paris in 2021. The clip brought out varied reactions from fans and some of them did not refrain from dubbing the act as disrespect by Messi towards his former club.
However, it is evident from the video that a fan threw the jersey in front of Messi and the Barcelona legend did not get the time to adjust his footing and inadvertently stepped on the outfit. The incident seemingly happened ahead of a warm-up session and the players were heading out to the ground before a Barca jersey landed at the feet of Lionel Messi. On his way out, Messi looked back and glanced at what he stepped on but kept walking straight.
As football fans all over the world are divided over the Messi vs Ronaldo GOAT debate, Cristiano Ronaldo fans are voicing the assertion that the Real Madrid legend would not have done the same to a jersey of his former club. While fans may continue to find reasons to portray their idol as superior, the occurrence at hand could not be labelled as disregard by Messi for the Catalan club.
