Real Madrid celebrated a dominant 3-0 first-leg victory over Manchester City in the Champions League Round of 16 on Wednesday night, but the triumph was quickly tempered by fresh worry over left-back Ferland Mendy.

The 30-year-old Frenchman, who had only recently returned from months on the sidelines, was substituted at halftime after picking up an apparent muscular issue. Meanwhile, Los Blancos are set to face the Sky Blues once again for the second leg, and ahead of the clash, a look at the players’ injury report.

Speaking of the issue, head coach Alvaro Arbeloa, in his recent media presence after the match, said:

“We don’t know yet what it is, but it doesn’t look good.”

It remains to be seen if this means it could be out of another spell on the sidelines. The player is set for a medical test on Thursday to determine the extent of the issue.

Mendy played in place of Alvaro Carreras, which backfired after he played for the whole match running, which resulted in his body breaking down in the first half vs City. He was replaced by  Fran Garcia for the remaining minutes.

Mendy had just come from the injury and played 90 minutes last Friday against Celta Vigo. He has been out for most of the season following a muscle injury in November. Ahead of the clash against Pep Guardiola’s side, the Whites will play Elche on Saturday in La Liga.
