Fresh off his victory at the 2026 Italian Open, Jannik Sinner has made a clear decision ahead of his arrival at this year’s Roland Garros. The World No. 1 player has declared rest and recovery as his top priorities before heading to the French Open, opting against heavy training in the immediate aftermath of a grueling clay-court campaign.
Jannik Sinner's priority is clear ahead of French Open 2026
In post-match comments at the Foro Italico, Sinner said he plans minimal tennis work “Tennis, zero” over the next few days, with only limited physical preparation as needed, while making time for family. He said:
“The main priority is to recover as much as I can in the next two, three days. There is not going to be a lot of training, for sure. Tennis, zero.”
The Italian added:
“Physical, we need to see. I want to be a little bit with my family, as well, in this moment. Switching off on tennis, then from Thursday on I think I will be there in Paris.”
The Italian acknowledged the physical toll of the clay season and stated the importance of mentally switching off. He intends to arrive in the French capital with a measured approach rather than an immediate, intense preparation.
This strategy highlights a professional focus on body management during the demanding back-to-back clay events. Sinner’s Rome title adds momentum heading into the second Grand Slam of the year, where fans and analysts will watch to see if the calculated downtime leaves him fresh and firing on the Paris clay.
