Manchester United sacked head coach Ruben Amorim on Monday after his 14-month spell in charge. This came after the Red’s draw against Leeds United which turned out to be the Portuguese final game as the manager of the Premier League side.
Following the sacking, Darren Fletcher has taken charge of the club for the team’s trip to Burnley on Wednesday. Amorim had joined the club in November 2024 from Sporting CP and stayed with the side until their 1-1 draw on Sunday.
Top candidates to be Man United’s next manager revealed
Amorim is now the fifth permanent manager of the club to be sacked since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013. Meanwhile, former Manchester United centre-back Rio Ferdinand gave some recommendations on who would be fit to replace Amorim.
Ferdinand took over his X (formerly Twitter) and tweeted his opinion on the successor, including De Zerbi, Thomas Tuchel, Xavi, and Darren Fletcher. Meanwhile, as the Reds continue to search for a replacement, SkyBet has already revealed some top candidates fit to take over the charge of the franchise.
Enzo Maresca is one of the top candidates to become the manager of the United. The former Chelsea boss is the best backed in the market, and is valued at 5/2. The Italian is coming off leaving Stamford Bridge last week, following a poor run of the Blues.
Darren Fletcher is another favourite to be backed by the votes. The former United midfielder and U18 coach is valued at 10/3. Another top candidate is Oliver Glasner, as the Crystal Palace manager is the third shortest priced candidate at 4/1 and will be out of contract at the end of the 2025-26 season.
