In a thrilling comeback, the Indian hockey team and defending champions of the Asia Cup thrashed Indonesia 16-0 to fight their way into the super 4s in Jakarta on Thursday. India needed to beat their opponents by 15 goals to qualify for the semifinals, but the side scored a goal more to eliminate Pakistan from the competition.

 

Meanwhile, Japan were the other team to qualify for the competition from Pool A. They had beaten India 5-2 in the previous match before defeating Pakistan 3-2 to qualify for the semi-finals.

 

The defending champions were guided by a splendid show from Dipsan Tirkey, who hammered five goals, and Sudev Belimagga, who sounded the board thrice. Veteran SV Sunil, Pawan Rajbhar and Karthi Selvam scored a brace each while Uttam Singh and Nilam Sanjeep Xess scored a goal each.
