The Tamil Thalaivas bolstered their Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) playoff aspirations with a convincing 32-25 victory against the U.P. Yoddhas at Delhi's Thyagaraj Indoor Stadium on Tuesday. Spearheaded by their marquee raider Narender, who clinched a Super 10, and their captain and defensive stalwart Sahil Gulia, who secured a High five, the Thalaivas advanced to the eighth position on the leaderboard, just two spots shy of the playoff positions.
The match commenced with the U.P. Yoddhas establishing an early dominance, thanks to Gagana Gowda and Mahipal, who together notched up seven raid points. Despite Narender's efforts as the primary raider for the Tamil Thalaivas, the initial lack of support from his side seemed to hinder their progress.
However, as the game progressed, the Thalaivas' raiders shifted gears. Narender, consistently a threat to the opposition, found a solid ally in Sahil Gulia, whose performance as the left corner defender was pivotal. By the end of the first half, the Thalaivas had turned the tables, leading 21-16, as they eyed a knockout stage berth.
The momentum continued into the second half, even as the U.P. Yoddhas bagged two quick points, pushing the Tamil Thalaivas into a Super tackle situation. Yet, Himanshu's critical scoring in a Do Or Die Raid swung the momentum back in favor of the Tamil Thalaivas, allowing them to notch up two successive points.
Despite the U.P. Yoddhas' attempts at a comeback, led by successful raids from Anil Kumar and Mahipal, their defensive line struggled to contain the surging Tamil Thalaivas. Narender, maintaining his stellar form, logged his ninth Super 10 of the campaign, propelling the Thalaivas towards a commanding lead.
The match concluded with the Tamil Thalaivas not just securing a win but also keeping their playoff dreams alive, largely thanks to the defensive mastery of captain Sahil Gulia. His relentless pursuit of the Yoddhas' raiders was instrumental in the Thalaivas' critical victory, as they continue their quest for a spot in the playoffs.
