Verstappen led every lap, capitalizing on Oscar Piastri’s opening-lap crash to strengthen his title credentials.

Carlos Sainz earned his first podium with Williams, and Liam Lawson achieved his career-best finish in fifth.

Max Verstappen gave another masterclass at the 2025 Azerbaijan Grand Prix, securing a dominant lights-to-flag win on the streets of Baku and reestablishing himself as one of the tough opponents in the F1. The Red Bull racer faced little competition throughout the 51-lap race, never loosing the lead after the dramatic start that witnessed championship leader Oscar Piastri crash out on the opening lap-a blow that tightens the title fight for season's second half.

Max Verstappen's strong performance

Lando Norris took benefit from Piastri's misfortune, making up ground in the championship hunt and reducing the gap to just 25 points, although he was unable to challenge for the podium in a race dominated by Max Verstappen. Behind Verstappen, Mercedes' George Russell secured second position, showcasing consistency amid the high-speed drama that has become a hallmark of Baku. Carlos Sainz, now with Williams, celebrated his first podium for the storied team, having closely missed out on pole position Saturday, and ultimately besting a hungry field for third place.

Kimi Antonelli's remarkable fight

One of the remarkable performances came from Kimi Antonelli, who was putting up a great fight and chased the podium only to finish just off the rostrum. Meanwhile, the midfield saw exciting battles for position, with Racing Bulls' Liam Lawson emerging as the star, claiming his best ever Formula 1 finish in fifth and signalling a potential rise in confidence and form for both racer and team.

With Verstappen's latest win and Piastri's setback, the Azerbaijan Grand Prix may well prove crucial in the unfolding drama of the 2025 Formula 1 season, intensifying the championship scenario as the paddock gears up for the next round. The result in Baku not only rewards Verstappen's flawless execution but also gives fans and teams plenty to figure out as new contenders emerge and title ambitions take new shape.
