Tyler Reddick secured a thrilling victory at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Sunday, clinching his spot in the Championship 4 alongside Joey Logano. The 23XI Racing driver, with team owner Michael Jordan present, made a dramatic pass on Ryan Blaney in the final corner to take the win.
After crossing the finish line, Jordan embraced Reddick as he was being interviewed by NBC. This marks both Reddick's and 23XI Racing's first appearance in the title race.
Reddick, 28, has had an impressive season, having already won the regular season championship and now tallying three victories in 2024. He led 97 laps during the Miami race, showcasing his skills on the track.
His latest win was particularly remarkable. After starting the final lap in third place, Reddick maneuvered around both Blaney and Denny Hamlin to claim first. Earlier in the race, Reddick faced significant challenges, needing to pit after staying out longer than his competitors. However, a caution caused by Kyle Larson's spin allowed him to maintain his position and set up a strong final restart with seven laps remaining.
While he initially lost the lead, Reddick capitalized on the opportunity and executed a well-timed move to surge ahead, finishing just 0.241 seconds in front of Blaney, who took second, followed by Hamlin in third.
With just one race left in the Round of 8, Reddick and Logano are the only drivers confirmed for the Championship 4 at Phoenix Raceway. The next race at Martinsville Speedway will serve as the last chance for playoff drivers to secure their spots for the title-deciding event.
Entering Martinsville, here are the playoff standings:
1. Tyler Reddick - Advanced via win
2. Joey Logano - Advanced via win
3. Christopher Bell - 4,132 points (+29 above the cut)
4. William Byron - 4,110 points (+7 above the cut)
5. Kyle Larson - 4,103 points (-7 below the cut)
6. Denny Hamlin - 4,092 points (-18 below the cut)
7. Ryan Blaney - 4,072 points (-38 below the cut)
8. Chase Elliott - 4,067 points (-43 below the cut)
Reddick commented on his performance, noting, "We were backed into a corner. We had no other choice. I know we were on a tyre deficit and here at Homestead, that's a death sentence. But I don't care. We did what it took to win this race. We're fighting for a championship."
As the race unfolded, it initially appeared to be a showdown between Blaney and Larson, who had recovered from an early tire issue. After a late caution brought on by Larson’s spin, the race restarted with eight laps to go. Blaney and Hamlin exchanged leads before Reddick made his decisive move.
