McLaren’s driver and leadership lineup remains unchanged for 2025, unlike key competitors.

Stability is fueling the team’s confidence and performance in the championship fight.

McLaren’s 2025 Formula 1 campaign has been nothing short of remarkable, and according to Oscar Piastri, the team’s biggest advantage lies in one key factor: stability.

While their closest rivals wrestle with changes in driver lineups and management, McLaren has maintained a consistent, united front—something Piastri believes is instrumental to their performance this year.

Stability in drivers and leadership

Unlike Ferrari, Mercedes, and Red Bull, McLaren entered the 2025 season with no shake-ups at the top or in the cockpit. This marks the third consecutive season for the formidable Piastri–Lando Norris partnership, with both drivers already confirmed to stay beyond the 2026 season.

At the helm, Team Principal Andrea Stella secured a multi-year extension in August 2024, solidifying the leadership he’s provided since taking the role in 2023. CEO Zak Brown also committed his future to McLaren earlier this year, signing a contract that keeps him in charge until at least 2030.

Oscar Piastri highlighted how crucial this continuity has been:

“I’m certainly very happy where I am. I was happy before some of the movements and rumours that are going on, but I think it is a massive strength of ours, how united we are, how strong we are as a team and from so many areas. So yeah, it does make me appreciate it. I already did appreciate it beforehand, but yes, I think the stability is definitely a nice thing.”

Rivals in transition

McLaren’s consistency stands in sharp contrast to its nearest competitors.

Ferrari has brought in seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton for 2025, alongside renewing Fred Vasseur as team principal after a period of uncertainty.

Mercedes, meanwhile, replaced Hamilton with rookie Kimi Antonelli, while George Russell’s seat for 2026 has yet to be officially confirmed.

Red Bull has faced the most turbulence, swapping drivers between Liam Lawson and Yuki Tsunoda early in the season before making the shock decision to part ways with long-serving team boss Christian Horner, replacing him with Laurent Mekies.

The winning formula

For Oscar Piastri, this stability fosters trust, cohesion, and a shared vision—elements that translate into performance on the track.

McLaren’s seamless communication, long-term planning, and mutual confidence have not only kept them competitive but also allowed them to focus entirely on car development and race strategy without the distractions of internal upheaval.

With half the season still ahead, McLaren’s unity could prove decisive in the battle for the championship.
