The Aston Martin star regained momentum with a brilliant double overtake on Lap 2 before retiring mid-race due to brake issues.

Two-time F1 champion Fernando Alonso started P14 at the Mexico City Grand Prix and lost several positions on the opening lap. The Spanish, then, in an attempt to regain lost ground, performed a sensational double overtake on the second lap of the race on Liam Lawson and Pierre Gasly.

The Aston Martin racer kicked off the race from P14 and got a great start off the line, and contested with Carlos Sainz going into Turn 1. However, the fellow countryman turned into Alonso as the two-time champion hugged the apex, which led to minimal damage, and Alonso lost multiple positions.

At the same time, multiple drivers failed to manage it within the track limits and then cut the first corner, which further led to Fernando Alonso losing some positions. Towards the end of the lap in the stadium section, the Spanish racer lost another position to Pierre Gasly.

The 44-year-old took to the team radio and complained about the racers cutting the first corner and gaining an advantage. The race engineer then asked Alonso to find his calm, that is when the magical double overtake came.

and the racers entered the final sector, Pierre Gasly ran wide and over the curb on Turn 11 exit, which allowed Fernando Alonso to pass on the straight. The Spanish then moved to the right and took the inside line into Turn 12, overtaking Liam Lawson, battling him through the stadium section, and made the move stick.

In a few corners, the Aston Martin racer overtook a couple of racers and regained some of the last ground. Sadly, midway through the race Alonso suffered a brake issue, which forced him to retire.
