From Dodger Stadium to Pomona—LA28 Reveals Stunning Olympic Venue Details

The roadmap for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics became more detailed this week as the organizing committee unveiled additional competition venues for several sports, including baseball, beach volleyball, surfing, and cricket.

On Tuesday, LA28 — the organizing committee for the Los Angeles Games — presented its revised venue plan to the International Olympic Committee (IOC), which gave its official approval last week.

Iconic and Innovative Venues Chosen for New and Returning Sports

The new list of confirmed venues spans a wide range of iconic Southern California locations, combining world-famous beaches, entertainment hubs, and top-tier sports complexes.

Among the standout announcements:
- Baseball will return to Dodger Stadium, which also hosted exhibition games during the 1984 Olympics.
- Squash will be played in glass courts set up on the Universal Studios backlot, giving fans a cinematic experience in Universal City.

- Beach volleyball finds a home at Alamitos Beach in Long Beach, while surfing will take place at Lower Trestles in San Clemente.

- Cricket, which makes a historic return after more than a century, will be staged at a temporary venue at the Pomona Fairplex.

“We have some really great places,” said Janet Evans, LA28’s Chief Athlete Officer and Olympic swimming champion. “It encapsulates and shows what LA can bring.

“We want our athletes to have a world-class experience at world-class venues.”

Comprehensive Venue List: From Downtown to the Coast

Here’s a breakdown of the newly confirmed venues across the LA region:

- Archery – Dignity Health Sports Park, Carson
- Baseball – Dodger Stadium
- 3x3 Basketball & Modern Pentathlon – Sepulveda Basin Recreation Area, San Fernando Valley
- Beach Volleyball – Alamitos Beach, Long Beach
- Boxing – Peacock Theater (preliminaries), Crypto.com Arena (finals), Downtown LA
- Coastal Rowing (Olympic debut) – Long Beach
- Cricket – Temporary venue at Pomona Fairplex
- Equestrian – Santa Anita Park, Arcadia
- Rhythmic Gymnastics & Badminton – Galen Center, Exposition Park
- Target Shooting – Temporary range at Long Beach Convention Center
- Shotgun Shooting – Shotgun Center, South El Monte
- Sport Climbing – Temporary wall at Long Beach Convention Center
- Squash – Universal Studios backlot, Universal City
- Surfing – Lower Trestles, San Clemente
- Triathlon, Road Cycling & Marathon Start – Venice
- Volleyball – Honda Center, Anaheim

Other previously announced locations include the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, BMO Stadium, the Rose Bowl, and venues in Oklahoma City for events like canoe slalom and softball.

“We’ve promised the world an incredible Olympic Games and today we’re proud to share the plan that will make it happen,” said Reynold Hoover, CEO of LA28.

“Los Angeles is the epicenter of sports, culture and entertainment, and every venue selected for the 2028 Games will provide athletes and fans the best possible experience.”

City Council Approves Venue Plan Updates

In March earlier this year, the Los Angeles City Council gave its approval to the amendments in the original venue plan. The first time the city actually codesigned this venue plan was in 2017, with a shift to be placed in the summer of 2024.

Changes to venue include:

-The basketball moving to the Intuit Dome in Inglewood
-Gymnastics to move toward the Crypto.com Arena
-Swimming will be moved to the world-class SoFi Stadium, also in Inglewood.

Most importantly, permanent buildings will not be put up-the competition spaces will use existing or temporary facilities.

Increased Medal Events and Competitions for Men and Women

The Olympic program of 2028 will include 351 medal events. This is a difference of 22 more than Paris 2024 and thus an important expansion.

In addition, there are:
- New mixed-gender team events:
-Artistic Gymnastics (mixed team) – Format to be announced
-Speed – Athletics – 4x100 mixed relay
-Archery - Compound bow mixed event
-Golf - Mixed team competition
-Coastal Rowing Beach sprint
-Table Tennis - Mixed doubles team

Plus, more:
-women soccer and water polo team size increases
-a new boxing weight class for women
- field expansion in 3x3 basketball
- more events in swimming and sport climbing.

Flag Football, Cricket, and Baseball Return

The LA28 Olympic Games will witness the emergence or return of many sports to the Olympic fold.

- Lacrosse returns after 100 years:
- Cricket and Baseball/Softball will join the fold as part of the heritage and innovation of LA28.
