Manu Bhaker misses out on 3rd medal in Paris Olympics 2024, loses to Hungary's Veronika Major in 25m pistol event shoot-off

India's best shooter Manu Bhaker missed her third Olympic medal in the 25m pistol event shoot-off event against Veronika Major from Hungary.

Indian star shooter Manu Bhaker failed to clinch her third Olympic medal in the 25m pistol event shoot-off event against Veronika Major from Hungary. She has already clinched two medals in the marquee event so far.  The 22-year-old Bhaker shot 28 in the eight-women final to miss out on completing a hat-trick of medals in a single edition of the Games. She lost to Hungarian bronze medallist Veronika Major in the shoot-off.

 

How Manu Bhaker reaches to shoot off

 

Manu Bhaker missed three shots in the first series. After that, Bhaker missed one shot each in the second and third series. While in the fourth series, she missed two shots again. In this way, after four series Manu Bhaker was in the sixth position. Then Manu did not miss a single shot in the fifth series and she came to the third position with 18-5. After that, Manu Bhaker came to the second position by missing one shot each in the sixth and seventh series. Manu missed two shots in the eighth series and with this her shoot-off took place.

Manu Bhaker loses in the shoot-off

 

Manu Bhaker fell behind Hungary's Mayer Veronica in the shoot-off and lost the medal. Manu could only hit three shots in the shoot-off while Veronica hit four shots and left her behind. Manu's score was 28-2 while Veronica beat Manu with 28-3 and finally won the bronze medal with 31-3. Jin Yang of Korea clinched the gold medal in the same event and France's Camille won the silver medal.

 

Before Bhaker, no Indian athlete has claimed more than one medal at the same Olympics.

 

In the qualification on Friday, Bhaker shot a total of 590 (294 in precision, 296 in rapid) out of a possible 600 to reach her third final of this Olympics at second place.

 

Earlier, Bhaker was the first Indian to clinch a medal in the marquee event. She opened India's medal tally with a bronze medal in the individual 10m air pistol competition after that she won another bronze with Sarabjot Singh
