India's women's archery team ended their Paris Olympics 2024 campaign after losing in the quarterfinal against the Netherlands at the Paris Olympics 2024. Indian trio of Ankita Bhakat, Bhajan Kaur and Deepika Kumari lost 51-52, 49-54, 48-53 to the Dutch team in what was a disastrous performance. Ankita and Deepika were the weakest links in the team as they failed to live up to the expectations.
In archery, the highest score by a team in a set is awarded two set points, while a draw get one set point each. India had made a direct entry into the quarterfinals after finishing fourth in the qualification.
The wait extended for 36 years
Archers participated for India for the first time in the 1988 Olympics and since then Indian archers have not been able to bring a medal in the Olympics. However, there were a lot of expectations from Deepika Kumari's team, who participated in the Olympics for the fourth time. Netherlands Women Archers (Quinty Roffen, Gaby Schloesser, Van der Laura Winkel) defeated India 6-0 by winning the first set 52-51, the second set 54-49 and the third set 53-48 with each set getting two points.
Men's archers are still in contention
The Netherlands women's archer team has now reached the semi-finals and will face the winner of the match between Korea and Chinese Taipei. After India's women's archers, now the men's team (Dheeraj Bommadevara, Praveen Jadhav and Tarundeep Rai) will play their quarterfinal match on Monday. There are chances that this team will clinch a medal in their event. Ankita Bhakat, Bhajan Kaur and Deepika Kumari together made it to the finals with 1983 points in the ranking round, but now their journey has ended from the quarterfinals.
