India's Preetismita Bhoi has set a new Youth World Record in the the 40 kg weight category.  Competing at the 2024 IWF Youth (Boys &Girls) World Weightlifting Championships at Lima (Peru) on 22d May 2024, Preetismita's remarkable performance has set a new benchmark for young athletes worldwide with scintillating lift in clean &jerk of 76 kg beating the old record held as World Standard by International Weightlifting Federation for 75 kg. This is the first time in history of Indian weightlifting that a lifter in Youth class created a World record.

 

Preetismita Bhoi displayed exceptional strength and technique, lifting snatch - 57 kg, clean & jerk - 76 kg with total of 133 kg, winning 3 Gold medals during the 40 kg weight category ni Youth Girls at Lima on 22rd May 2024. Her achievement is a testament to her dedication, rigorous training, and passion for weightlifting.

Preetismita Bhoi opened up after creating the record she thanked her family, coaches and Weightlifting Federation for her achievement.

 

"I am honored and thrilled to have set a new world record. This is a dream come true, and I couldn't have done it without the support of my coaches, family, and Indian Weightlifting Federation. I hope this inspires other young athletes to pursue their dreams with determination and hard work."

 

Preetismita Bhoi steals show in Lima

 

The 2024 IWF Youth (Boys &Girls) World Weightlifting Championships-Lima-Peru brought together the best young weightlifters from around the globe, showcasing the future of the sport. Preetismita's record-setting performance was a highlight of the event, drawing admiration and applause from spectators and fellow competitors alike.

 

Whereas a total of 3 Gold + 3 Silver + 5 Bronze medals were won by Indian athletes on the opening day of the Event, Jyoshna Sabar (40 kg) and Payal (45 kg) won Silver medals ni their respective weight categories and Babulal Hembrom (49 kg) won Bronze medal in Youth Boys.
