BWF World Tour Finals: Satwiksairaj-Chirag stun Indonesian pair, close in on securing semi-final berth

Satwik and Chirag defeated Indonesian pair in 3 games

India's top-ranked doubles pair, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty continued to impress at the BWF World Tour Finals 2025. They recorded their second consecutive victory by defeating the Indnesian pair of Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Shohibul Fikri at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Centre Gymnasium on Thursday.

Satwk-Chirag showed incredible grit during the encounter and went on to win 21-11, 16-21, 21-11. The win made their chances of reaching the semi-finals even stronger and they now lead their group with a decent point difference. The Indian pair proved to be totally dominant in the first game and didn't trail their opponents at any point of time. They eventually took the game 21-11 to start the match on a positive note.

However, the Indonesian pairing fought back in the second game and though the scores were level at 12-12 at one stage,  Satwik-Chirag lost crucial points during the latter part of the set and lost by 16-21. The Indian duo came up with a strong response in the final game and went on to win it comfortably by 21-11.

Another tough encounter awaits

It was another fantastic performance from Satwik-Chirag, who will now be facing Malyasia's Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik in their final group stage match on Friday. The Indian pair have a dismal head-to-head record of 5-11 against their next opponents, but have come out on top in their last two meetings. It remains to be seen if they will be able to make it three wins from as many matches and make it to the semi-final stage.

Satwik-Chirag defeated Olympic medallists

Meanwhile, the Indian duo had given a fantastic performance in their opening match of the BWF World Tour Finals and had defeated Olympic silver medallists Liang Wei Keng and Wang Chang of China by 12-21, 22-20 and 21-14. Satwik-Chirag's opening two matches of the tournament have been quite tiring and have gone down to the third game. However, the Indian pair has stood their ground brilliantly and has been clinical when it matters the most. They will be aiming to maintain their form in the upcoming encounter.
