Floyd Mayweather is all set to make a U-turn on his nine-year retirement and return to competitive boxing this summer. The 48-year-old has not fought in a real boxing match since 2017, the encounter in which he defeated Conor McGregor.
Following that match, he announced his retirement for the third time in his career, and he is now set to return to show off his boxing skills on a professional level. Here is all you need to know about whatever is known about the exhibition match.
Floyd Mayweather to make U-turn and face Mike Tyson
The former five-division world champion has announced yet another exhibition coming up this spring. The match will be played against none other than Mike Tyson. Additionally, the American boxer has stated that he is also returning to real ring competition this year under a promotional deal with CSI Sports/Fight Sports.
Mayweather, in a statement, said that he desires to create “more records” in the sport.
Mayweather’s statement further read:
“From my upcoming Mike Tyson event to my next professional fight afterwards, no one will generate a bigger gate, have a larger global broadcast audience, and generate more money with each event (than) my events.”
Despite winning 15 major world championships, Mayweather, who will turn 49 this month, is still hungry for more wins and records. Meanwhile, not much is known about his fight against Tyson at this point.
