Though he is one of the most decorated stars in WWE history, Rollins is not the one to sit waiting for the end of his in-ring career. Rollins is a five-time WWE World Champion and has achieved nearly every major honor in the industry, including having pulled off the most famous Money in the Bank cash-in in history. While Rollins is expected to play a major role at WrestleMania 41 in the near future, what does "The Visionary" have for himself beyond the ring?
Long-Term Vision of Rollins: Being with WWE for Life
During an interview recently done with Kim Bhasin of Bloomberg, he took time to share what the future would hold for him. He now has some plans for the future, even if it is not away from WWE and his wrestling career-instead, he sees himself transitioning into a sort of backstage role, possibly even filling a leadership position within the company.
"I think probably long-term, my future is still in the industry, in WWE, in some capacity backstage," Rollins said. "I think someone is going to have to run that place eventually, you know, after the current regime has decided that they are done with it. So, I like to fancy myself as someone who might be interested in that, and I want to learn that side of things. That is my first love... I do think long-term, we probably are looking at Seth Rollins in WWE for a long time."
A New View on Wrestling Changes Everything
Rollins is beginning to look at wrestling differently and also concepts of how the business works as he starts to develop an interest in the artistic and managerial aspects of it. Yet, it is important to him to keep that aspect of his life while making the most of his time in the ring before jumping right into these future endeavors.
"I'm easier in the window getting closer to the end of my career, as opposed to the beginning, but there's still time before the end comes. I mean, currently, I am somewhere kind of in the prime," explained Rollins. "I am 38 years old. My mental and physical things are pretty locked in right now: my physical hasn't really declined that much, and my mental side is really on the rise, because I am starting to see the industry from a different angle. That part I'm really focused on."
He mentioned that he was devoting time to performing at the moment but his ambitions of being in an executive or creative position were then still premature. "Right now I'm focused on what I'm doing within the ring and helping out there as best as I can," he added.
WWE's Traditions Turn to Wrestler to Management
Undoubtedly, an extension of Rollins's dream is in line with what has been a fixture in WWE, whereby former wrestlers seamlessly transition into backstage roles. Chief Content Officer for the main roster is Triple H, while Shawn Michaels plays the same role in NXT. Other prominent names like Shane Helms, William Regal, and Matt Bloom have also secured high office positions.
In addition to this growing trend, it has also been said recently that WWE Hall of Famer Road Dogg has been awarded the position of Co-Lead Writer of SmackDown along with John Swikata. Road Dogg had previously been Head writer and executed producing duties for SmackDown. He made a return in 2022 to WWE, taking on the title of Senior Vice President of Live Events, having spent short time outside the company. Most importantly, this is the same pathway that Rollins seems to be considering moving down.
In Future There is Life Outside the Ring
Just as Seth Rollins proves himself successful in the ring, showing the future orientation of his career displays his loud passion for WWE and all that is in the wrestling industry. Rollins is not having days to come when he would not be an active competitor, but he wishes to learn the ropes of management and even creatively, which, in the end, would signify the fact that WWE's pulled future would be more than just as an active wrestler.
If he steps into an executive or creative role in the future, Rollins' commitment to WWE will carry his legacy on for decades. For now, fans can look forward to seeing "The Visionary" continue putting up unforgettable performances as he cements his place among wrestling's all-time greats.
