Commonwealth Games silver medallist Bindyarani Devi delivered a disappointing performance at the IWF Grand Prix II in the women's 55kg category. Unfortunately, she was unable to achieve an overall total as she failed to lift the weight in any of her three clean-and-jerk attempts.
Among the 12 lifters, Bindyarani was one of only two athletes who did not finish (DNF) her event on the night of December 7. The 24-year-old successfully completed only two legal lifts out of six attempts, both occurring in the snatch section, with her best effort recorded at 81kg.
Bindyarani, who secured a silver medal at the Asian Championships in May earlier this year, faced difficulties during her performance. In her initial clean and jerk attempt, she was unable to lift 106kg, and subsequent efforts to lift 109kg were also unsuccessful.
The first attempt was declared a no-lift due to the bending and extending of her arms. Unfortunately, in the following two attempts, the Manipuri athlete struggled to maintain the barbell over her head, resulting in unsuccessful lifts.

Bindyarani achieved her personal best in clean and jerk with a lift of 116 kg, accomplished in Birmingham during the Commonwealth Games in 2022.
In the men's 73kg event, the reigning national champion Narayan Ajith had a disappointing performance, finishing in the second spot in Group C. It's worth noting that this weight category is designated for the Olympics.
The gold medallist from the Commonwealth Championships achieved a snatch lift of 133kg and a clean and jerk lift of 157kg, resulting in a total effort of 290kg. However, this falls significantly short of the impressive 312kg he lifted at the World Championships in September.
The final standings will be determined after the conclusion of the Group A proceedings.
Achinta Sheuli, a Commonwealth Games champion, is also competing in the 73kg event. The lifter from Kolkata has been assigned to Group B based on his entry weight.
