India’s campaign at the Indonesia Masters badminton tournament came to an end after PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen were knocked out in the quarterfinals of the singles events.
PV Sindhu lost to China’s Chen Yu Fei
India's two-time Olympic medallist Sindhu went down in straight games against China’s Chen Yu Fei in the women’s singles quarterfinal. The top-seeded Chinese player won the match 21-13, 21-17 in 42 minutes. With this defeat, Sindhu now trails Chen 6–8 in their head-to-head record. Sindhu’s last win over Chen came back in 2019.
Lakshya Sen lost to Panitchaphon Teeraratsakul
In the men’s singles, Lakshya Sen tried hard but lost 18-21, 20-22 to Thailand’s young and in-form shuttler Panitchaphon Teeraratsakul. The match lasted 46 minutes and was closely contested. Earlier in the tournament, the 21-year-old Thai player had also beaten Malaysia’s Lee Zii Jia, the Paris 2024 Olympic bronze medallist.
India had already suffered setbacks on Thursday. Kidambi Srikanth and Anmol Kharb were eliminated from the men’s and women’s singles events, while the men’s doubles pair of Hariharan Amsakarunan and M R Arjun also exited in the pre-quarterfinals.

There were no Indian entries in the women’s doubles category. In men’s doubles, the two Indian pairs competing in the tournament were knocked out in the first round. With these results, India finished the USD 500,000 Super 500 tournament without a podium finish.
