Carlos Alcaraz targets surpassing Novak Djokovic’s records for most Grand Slam titles and weeks at No. 1.

Despite recent challenges, the 22-year-old remains focused on long-term dominance in men’s tennis.

Carlos Alcaraz, the 22-year-old Spanish sensation, has made it clear that his ambitions extend far beyond his current success. Already a six-time Grand Slam champion, Alcaraz revealed he aims to surpass two of Novak Djokovic’s most formidable ATP records: the most Grand Slam titles and the most weeks ranked No. 1.

Speaking ahead of the Six Kings Slam exhibition in Saudi Arabia, where he lost in straight sets to Jannik Sinner, Alcaraz reflected on the long-term goals that drive his career.

“There are several records I would like to have, but obviously, the one for most Grand Slam titles. That's the one everyone wants. And then the one for weeks at number one, which belongs to Djokovic and which is crazy because he has been at the top for over 400 weeks,” he said.

A rapid rise in the ATP Tour

Despite his youth, Carlos Alcaraz has already carved out an impressive legacy. His six Grand Slam victories include two each at Roland Garros, Wimbledon, and the US Open, placing him among the youngest players to achieve such a feat in the Open Era. Experts and fans alike are beginning to see him—and his contemporary Jannik Sinner—as potential rivals capable of redefining the dominance of the Big Three: Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer.

Learning from the legends

Alcaraz’s admiration for the legends of the sport is evident. He not only respects Djokovic’s longevity and consistency but also acknowledges the historic achievements of Rafael Nadal at the French Open. These reflections are shaping his own path as he looks to etch his name even higher in tennis history.

Future aspirations

While his recent loss to Sinner in Saudi Arabia shows the challenges that lie ahead, Carlos Alcaraz remains undeterred. His focus is on sustained excellence and consistency—two attributes that have allowed Novak Djokovic to stay at the top of men’s tennis for over 400 weeks. With continued dedication, Alcaraz aims to challenge these long-standing records and potentially set new benchmarks for the next generation.

“Being at the top and winning the most Grand Slams are what motivates me every day,” Alcaraz added. “I know it’s a tough road, but that’s the challenge I want.”
