Carlos Alcaraz withdraws from hard court event; will defending champion return to US Open?

Carlos Alcaraz has withdrawn from the Cincinnati Open 2026 just days ahead of the US Open. The Spaniard has pulled out of the hard-court event due to an ongoing wrist injury, according to the tournament organisers. Meanwhile, fans are worried if the tennis star will be able to play at the last Grand Slam of the year after he missed out on the French Open and Wimbledon. 

Will Alcaraz play at US Open as he withdraws from Cincinnati? 

Alcaraz is scheduled to play at the US Open 2026 and will attempt to defend his title in New York. According to the entry list, the player is registered to reclaim the title. The player was currently seen practicing on the tennis court as he looked healthy enough to return.  

Alcaraz was set to return to the ATP Masters 1000 event after he was sidelined from the sport ever since the Barcelona Open in April. The 23-year-old is focused on recovering and is expected to be fully fit for the US Open, which is scheduled to begin in late August and will run un til the following month. 

Alcazar, who is currently ranked third in the ATP Rankings, won last year’s event in Cincinnati after beating Jannik Sinner in the final to win his sixth trophy of that year. The Spaniard then went on to defeat the Italian again in the US Open to claim his second Grand Slam in America and his sixth overall.
