Amanda Anisimova sparked a wave of online amusement and speculation during her Cincinnati Open third-round match against Alexandra Eala when Tennis Channel commentators openly debated what she was drinking on court.

In the second set of the contest at the Lindner Family Tennis Center, cameras caught the ninth seed sipping a yellowish, foamy liquid from a clear plastic cup during a changeover. The beverage’s appearance closely resembled beer, prompting broadcasters Brett Haber and Lindsay Davenport to discuss the unusual sight.

“What is that, Lindsay?” Haber asked. Davenport suggested it could be apple cider. Haber replied that he would never suggest a player was drinking beer mid-match, but admitted “that’s certainly what it looked like,” while noting it could also be non-alcoholic or something else entirely.

A clip of the exchange quickly went viral with fans left guessing the drink. Fans offered theories ranging from energy drinks to more playful suggestions, with several spotting a Red Bull can near Anisimova’s courtside area.

Later in the broadcast, Haber settled the matter that it was not a beer. He said:

“Just to put a bow on the story, we can confirm via one of our courtside camera operators that Anisimova asked for and was delivered a Red Bull. That is the mystery bevvie.”

The energy drink appeared to provide the desired boost. After dropping the opening set 4-6, Anisimova fought back to take the second 6-4 and dominated the third 6-2, securing a 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 victory. The win advanced the 24-year-old into the round of 16, where she was scheduled to face Wimbledon champion Linda Noskova.
