Coco Gauff On Finally Beating Iga Swiatek on Clay

Being the defending champion and the one dominating the circuit, Iga Swiatek entered as the undisputed favorite to claim the Madrid Open 2025 title. However, it wasn't to be this time as she has been dumped out by an opponent who has always struggled against her across courts let alone clay. Swiatek has always had Gauff's number when it comes to playing on clay, but this time the World No.3 came stronger than ever to knock Swiatek out of the tournament from the semifinal stage.

Following the culmination of the game, an expressive Coco Gauff reflected on her game during the on-court interview and brought forward what she did differently this time to attain the ideal result.

"I don't know. I think just the mentality that I had for the whole match. I think I was aggressive and played with margin. Maybe it wasn't her best level today, but I think I kinda forced her into some awkward positions. I am really happy with how I played today," she said.

"Super important. Especially playing someone like Iga, you know, at any moment she can come back and play great tennis. So, for me was just making sure my level stayed the same. Actually, I was trying to raise it. I knew that in the second set I had to raise it, especially because she could come back, so yeah, I am really happy with how I played." She added.

By beating Iga Swiatek, Coco Gauff has booked her place in the final of the Madrid Open 2025. She now awaits the winner of the semifinal 2, which will take place between world no.1 Aryna Sabalenka and no.17 seed Elina Svitolina.
