Jannik Sinner responds to Alexander Zverev’s claims of him & Alcaraz being favored by tennis officials
Sinner has a message for the German star in which the former World No. 1 player has stated that he and Alcaraz “don’t make the courts.” After defeating Daniel Altmaier in the opener of the ATP Shanghai, Sinner was asked about the comments made by Zverev. The four-time Grand Slam champion stated:
“You know, me and Carlos, we don’t make the courts.”
Sinner continued:
“It’s not our decision. We try to adapt ourself in every situation. I feel like still every week is a bit different.”
Sinner has appeared in all the major finals this year, winning two of those while losing the other two to Alcaraz at the French Open and Wimbledon. This tells a lot about his performance this year, and the player credited it to his hard work and not the favours made by the officials. Speaking of the claims, he further said:
“I’ve played some great tennis even when it was faster courts. But I’m not making the courts, you know, so I just try to adapt and play my best tennis I can, and that’s it.”
With Alcaraz not playing at the ATP event in China, Sinner was a heavy favorite to win the tournament; however, his defense was brought to a crushing end on Sunday evening. Sinner, who has won two Grand Slams this year, was forced to retire midway through the third round of his match with Tallon Griekspoor. The Italian native sustained severe cramping in his right thigh. While he was trailing 6-7(3), 7-5, 3-2 against the Dutch player.
