Novak Djokovic has sparked a new debate among tennis fans following his new suggestion. The Serbian superstar wants to change the scoring system in tennis and believes that the sport should minimize the traditional six-game sets to have a faster format.

The 24-time Grand Slam champion has proposed a major overhaul of tennis scoring, suggesting sets should be played to four games rather than six, with the possible removal of advantage scoring, while retaining the best-of-five format.
Djokovic calls for shorter sets to keep tennis matches under two hours
Speaking in an interview at Fanatics Fest in New York, the tennis legend said the changes would help keep matches within a roughly two-hour window. He said:
“We should change the format of the scoring. Not play up to 6 games per set. Play up to 4, possibly no advantage.”
Djokovic added:
“Keep best of 5 sets. Keep the matches within a 2-hour window. It’s best for everyone.”
The idea is not entirely new. A similar shortened scoring system has already been used in the Next Gen ATP Finals for under-21 players. Djokovic framed his proposal as a way to make the sport more manageable for players, spectators and broadcasters without abandoning the tradition of five-set matches at major tournaments.
The comments, shared widely on social media, have prompted mixed reactions. Some fans and commentators welcomed the potential for more predictable and viewer-friendly match lengths, while others expressed concern that shorter sets could reduce the drama and endurance battles that define classic Grand Slam encounters.
