Stefanos Tsitsipas has finally claimed his first ATP 500 title, overcoming Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-3, 6-3 in the final of the Dubai Championships on Saturday. This victory marks a significant milestone for the Greek tennis star, as it is his 12th career title and his first of the 2025 season.

A long-awaited triumph in Dubai

Tsitsipas, ranked 11th in the world, had previously faced disappointment in all 11 of his ATP 500 finals, including two painful losses in Dubai in 2019 and 2020. However, this time around, the Greek player delivered an exceptional performance, requiring just under 90 minutes to secure the win. His resilience in overcoming the mental hurdle of past failures was evident as he clinched the coveted trophy.

It’s a big relief that I’m able to hold that trophy after the third attempt, Tsitsipas said, reflecting on his past struggles in Dubai. It’s something that I had in the back of my mind, and I’m happy to say I accomplished it.

A clinical performance in the final

Tsitsipas demonstrated his sharp focus and determination throughout the match. After losing the first two games of the opening set, he won the next four, putting him firmly in control. The Greek player then sealed the win with an ace on his first match point, marking the end of a dominant display on the court.

Throughout the match, Tsitsipas was able to defend his serve with remarkable efficiency. He saved all seven break points he faced, showcasing his mental toughness and his ability to perform under pressure. With this victory, Tsitsipas improves his head-to-head record against Auger-Aliassime to 7-3.

A return to the Top 10

With his triumph in Dubai, Tsitsipas is set to return to the ATP Top 10 for the first time since May of the previous year. The win boosts his confidence and sets him on a promising path for the rest of the season.

Felix Auger-Aliassime, currently ranked 21st, was aiming for his third title of the 2025 season, following wins in Adelaide and Montpellier. However, Tsitsipas proved to be a formidable opponent, ensuring the Canadian’s bid for a third title this year came to an end.
