World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) has long enjoyed an immense fan following in India, despite never having hosted a televised event in the country. However, that might change soon, as key WWE executives have started dropping hints about a potential Premium Live Event (PLE) or even a RAW/SmackDown telecast in India.
WWE President Nick Khan’s Big Revelation
WWE President Nick Khan recently spoke about WWE's plans to bring a major event to India. While discussing the company’s expansion strategy, he revealed that India is high on their priority list for future events.
"That's the goal, and we're pencilling out 2026 and 2027 now. In one of our first meetings with Netflix after the deal was signed. Without asking, Netflix handed us a list of their priority countries. At the top of that list was India," Khan told HT.
This statement has fueled speculation that WWE could be planning a grand-scale event, possibly on the lines of WrestleMania, in the coming years.
Triple H Backs WWE's India Plans
WWE's Chief Content Officer Triple H is keen on returning events to India as well. Triple H mentioned to Alex McCarthy of the Daily Mail, though, how he wanted to do another PLE in the UK before considering India as a destination.
His statement only solidifies WWE's commitment to getting more in terms of audience reach in India, a country that has always been so receptive towards professional wrestling.
Stronger WWE Presence in India through Netlix Deal
The Indian audience became closer to WWE with its recent streaming tie-up with Netflix, under which all WWE programming-Raw, SmackDown, NXT, and PLEs commenced their availability on the internet platform for Indian fans.
The move could make a sizeable impact on WWE's Indian viewership, given how large and famous both the promotion and the OTT platform are.
WWE’s Past Events in India
While WWE has yet to host a full-fledged televised event in India, the company has held several live shows in the country:
- WWE Superstar Spectacle (2023) – The most recent WWE event in India took place on September 8, 2023, in Hyderabad.
- WWE Live India Supershow (2017) – A large-scale live event that saw several top WWE superstars compete in front of an Indian audience.
- WWE Live Tour India (2016) – Another major live show, marking one of WWE’s early forays into the Indian market.
With growing interest from both WWE and its broadcasting partners, the possibility of a full-fledged WWE event in India appears more likely than ever. Fans across the nation will be eagerly waiting for an official announcement on WWE’s grand return.
