WWE shockingly released R-Truth and Carlito on Sunday. The news broke out of nowhere and took the WWE Universe by surprise as both wrestlers were involved in their respective storylines. Carlito was a part of Judgment Day, whereas Truth was busy mimicking the babyface John Cena's gimmick after facing him in the last PPV, i.e., Saturday Night Live.
There seemed life in both the characters, unfortunately, the WWE's chief content officer, Triple H, did not feel the same and decided to put a full stop to their stint in the promotion.
After Carlito and R-Truth shockingly exited WWE, Triple H’s role in their departure is revealed.
In a recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer said that he was shocked about Carlto's release, as he was still involved in The Judgment Day. However, Meltzer wasn't taken aback by R-Truth's dismissal as he wasn't a part of weekly storylines and because of his age. R-Truth turned 53 in January 2025.
Meltzer also shared that with NXT stars getting called up and new stars potentially joining the roster, like Mariah May, somebody “on the bottom level” was bound to be in danger. Dave also noted that WWE was looking at the money involved, and Triple H picked Carlito and Truth to be on the short end of the stick.
“There’s numbers. They’re looking at the numbers, and they’re looking at how many do we have to cut, or how much money do we have to cut. And those were the picks. Those were the [Paul “Triple H”] Levesque picks, and that’s what it is.”
