Jim Cornette believes Cena may be set to “pass the torch” to Gunther in his final match.

Cena prepares to defend the Intercontinental Championship against Dominik Mysterio in his last PLE bout.

Former WWE manager Jim Cornette recently discussed John Cena's final matches. The star has two dates left on his retirement tour.

John Cena was at Madison Square Golden this past Monday for his last RAW appearance. Dominik Mysterio confronted the Cenation leader for an Intercontinental rematch. He also partnered with Sheamus and Rey Mysterio in a six-man tag team fight against Dominik, Finn Balor, and JD McDonagh.

On a recent episode of Jim Cornette's Drive Thru, the wrestling veteran noted that Saturday Night's Main Event was not a huge show like the big four PLEs. He felt Gunther was being groomed as the final opponent for Cena on, and the 17-time World Champion would do the honors for The Ring General on his way out.

However, Jim Cornette was not sure if the IC Title would be on the line during the legend's last fight.

"Therein lies the problem because the Last Time is Now. The last actual match is gonna be December 13 on Saturday Night's Main Event, which is not gonna be as important an event now that it is just on Peacock or whatever, than a big show like Survivor Series. At the same time, I was thinking Gunther is gonna win this tournament, and maybe Cena puts Gunther over on the way out. Now Cena's got the Intercontinental Title. Is that a way to get the Intercontinental Title back to Gunther so that he has some bragging rights? We haven't established whether or not it would have to be for the title now."

John Cena to face Dominik Mysterio

In his final PLE fight, John Cena will defend the Intercontinental Championship against Dominik Mysterio.

Cena became a Grand Slam Champion after defeating Dominik Mysterio during his final appearance in Boston on the November 10 episode of RAW. The Judgement Day member has been eager to reclaim his title and laid out a challenge for John Cena at Survivor Series in San Diego.

It will be interesting to see if The GOAT can defend his Intercontinental Championship next weekend.
